In
addition to the intensive 1:1 intervention which is the core
of beginning and intermediate stages of intervention, other
elements comprise a complete program.
BEGINNING
STAGES OF TREATMENT:
-
Diagnostic
therapy work performed by the Clinical
Team is the first phase of intervention.
This allows us to further identify potential reinforcers,
further assess the child’s skills, develop goals
and objectives, and help the child to become familiar
with the structure of the therapy session.
-
Introductory
workshop
for family and others who are significantly involved with
the child with autism
-
3-5
days of intensively-supervised sessions - Basic learning
skills are emphasized including imitation, communicational
intent, joint referencing, toy play, receptive and expressive
vocabularies, attending to the environment.
INTERMEDIATE
STAGES OF TREATMENT:
-
-
School
Placement in a General Education Environment
is an element of many children's intensive treatment programs
after the first year. These placements are made after
considering multiple factors including the progress made
in language acquisition, evidence of incidental learning,
etc
ADVANCED
STAGES OF TREATMENT:
-
During
this phase, the child's program hours are typically reduced.
The focus may be on more advanced language skills and
learning the intricacies of friendship and peer networks.
Monitoring, consultation, and follow-up services begin
to replace 1:1 intervention.
