Jane
S. Howard, Ph.D., BCBA is
a Licensed Psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Dr. Howard
received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Western Michigan University. She
is a member of the Psychology Faculty at California State University,
Stanislaus where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Applied
Behavior Analysis.
Dr. Howard served as the Co-Coordinator for special education teacher
training programs at California State University, Stanislaus, from 1980
- 1986. In that capacity she was the Co-author and Project Director of
three special education teacher training grants from the U.S. Department
of Education totaling more than $500,000.
She is the Founder and Co-Director of the Center for Direct Instruction,
an on-campus clinic at California State University, Stanislaus that serves
children with a range of behavioral and academic needs.
Since 1995 she has provided home-based, early intervention services to
children and families. Dr. Howard co-authored the Applied Behavior Analysis
textbook, Human Behavior: Analysis and Application with Ellen Reese. She
is also the co-author of research studies on teaching and language training
for children with special needs that have been published in the Journal
of Applied Behavior Analysis and The Analysis of Verbal Behavior. She
is the lead author of an outcome study on early intensive behavior analytic
intervention with children published in 2005 in the journal of Research
in Developmental Disabilities.
Dr. Howard has made numerous presentations on language and educational
applications of Applied Behavior Analysis, including those designed particularly
for children with autism, at national and international conferences including
the Association for Behavior Analysis and The American Psychological Association.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Association
for Behavior Analysis and has served as a guest reviewer for The Journal
of Applied Behavior Analysis, The Behavior Analyst, and Verbal Behavior
Dr. Howard has served continuously on the Board of Directors of the California
Association for Behavior Analysis since 1996.
Coleen
R. Sparkman, M.A., CCC-SLP, received her Masters degree in Communicative
Disorders from California State University, Fresno. She is a Speech and
Language Pathologist and has a Certificate of Clinical Competence by the
American Speech - Language - Hearing Association. Ms. Sparkman is the
former director of the speech pathology clinic, The Speech Path.
Ms. Sparkman has provided early intervention services to children and
technical assistance to school personnel and regional center staff for
the past 24 years. In that capacity she has evaluated or worked with more
than 500 children with autism.
Ms. Sparkman's work has been presented at numerous professional meetings
including the Governor's Conference and the California Association for
Behavior Analysis. Her work with children with pervasive developmental
disorders is recognized throughout the western United States. She is the
co-author of an outcome study on early intensive behavior analytic intervention
with children published in 2005 in the journal of Research in Developmental
Disabilities.
