Kids Helping Kids
For children ages 3-7 who have gained foundational play and communication skills and are ready to further their social interactions, we offer the Kids Helping Kids program. The program involves building interactive social and play skills with typically developing peers in small groups or 1:1 format in a fun and supportive environment. The groups are led by experienced adults who present purposefully chosen activities to encourage interaction and observational learning.
We provide services in the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Yolo.
Social Skills Groups
It’s our goal to help children and teenagers improve their social functioning. Productive social interactions and the ability to recognize and cope with typical, everyday problems are important skills that help a person lead a successful and pleasant life. We promote growth in these life-skills areas through structured, guided social skills groups that take place twice per week for two-hour sessions for children ages 7-18+. During the sessions, we work with children and teens to help them manage behaviors that interfere with such things as acceptance, self-regulation, social skills, and other key elements. We use a behavioral skills training model which emphasizes self-monitoring so that gains are extended and maintained outside of treatment hours and after treatment is ended.
Parents also participate in individual and group parent trainings. These trainings:
- Identify areas of need for their child
- Teach strategies to strengthen specific skills
- Foster generalization across environments
